Foot care nurses are trained in: gouge blade in callus removal, rotary file for reducing calluses, basic ingrown toenail management, assessment/signs of arterial and venous insufficiency, and neuropathy identification. Podiatrists do all of this in addition to more detailed footwear and biomechanical assessment, nail surgeries and removal.


Yes, the initial appointment is a detailed assessment of sensation, circulation, skin, basic footwear assessment, and then providing foot care. The nurse then treats corns, callusing, and other issues, provides education, and then applies moisturizer to the feet with a gentle massage.
